Mondrian South Beach Hotel Review

Mondrian South Beach Review – 4* Good

The Mondrian is my preferred hotel of choice when I go to Miami. It’s located on the bay side which means the rooms are much more spacious than those on Ocean or Collins. South Beach is small, you can walk to the beach from the Mondrian in 20 min, or if it’s too hot, call a $5 Uber. You can also easily access Citibike if you are signed up with them. It’s conveniently located with a Whole Foods, Starbucks, Walgreens, a great salad place and a Cuban place within a few minute walk from the hotel. It’s big enough to have all the amenities of a resort, without the hassle of lines of massive resort like the Fontainebleau.

Location Rating – 4* Good

Located on the bay side of South Beach on West Ave. and 11th St. you’re conveniently located in the central area of South Beach. You can walk to Lincoln Road, the main pedestrian shopping street in 15 minutes, and to the beach in 20 min. When it gets too hot to walk, you can take $5 Ubers pretty much anywhere you’d want to go in South Beach. I prefer the Mondrian over any of the Collins Ave hotels, the area is quieter and more residential. There is a great salad and empanada place to grab lunches called Go-Go Fresh Food. I love the staff at David’s Café Cafecito where I go every morning to get a Cuban coffee and breakfast if I’m craving something heavier than my normal protein shake. Their burritos are yum!

Room – 4* Good

The bathrooms are spacious and stocked with Malin + Goetz products. The rooms all have separate seating areas and are equipped with a small kitchenette including a sink, stovetop, fridge, and some rooms include microwaves. The WiFi is free and very good throughout the hotel. The rooms that face the bay have balconies which offer a nice view of the city skyline. All the rooms have murals painted on them, some of my friends get freaked out by the faces. I think they are fun.

Service – 4* Good

Reception is always friendly and efficient. Concierge service is available and also quite helpful. During one stay the concierge went out of his way to help a friend’s boyfriend coordinate a birthday celebration by sending champagne to the room along with arranging cupcakes to be picked up from a local bakery and served in the room.

Sleep Quality – 4* Good

If you are going in large group and want to share rooms, the Mondrian is one a handful of hotels that offer double rooms. The beds are very comfortable with nice linens and pillows. The rooms are equipped with blackout curtains and I’ve never encountered issues with noise.

Mondrian South Beach Hotel Amenities

The hotel has a restaurant (I haven’t eaten there since Asia De Cuba closed). The pool side food is OK, a bit expensive for what you get but typical for South Beach. I take a quick walk to Go-Go for lunch or pick something up at Whole Food. The pool area is very nice and overlooks Bay Biscayne, which offers a great view at night. The chairs are comfortable and the service is very good. There are pool parties on both Saturday and Sundays, holiday weekends are busier and can be a bit annoying with the extra security where they check bags and don’t allow outside drinks or food of any type, including water bottles.

The gym is small but equipped well. The Agua spa is nice, I’ve had massages a couple of times. Sometimes you can find deals on Gilt or by looking online ahead of time. Valet parking is $37/day, average for South Beach. Their website says they also offer bike rentals, but I’ve never used them.
